HISTORY
OF THE COLORADO STATE SOCIETY![]()
On December 18, 1904 Mrs. Frank Wheaton became President, and the Colorado Society Headquarters moved to Denver.
On March 15, 1952 the National Society granted the Colorado Society Charter Number 223, signed by the President National, Alice Lane Ingram. This Charter and the other relics of the Major General Alexander Macomb Chapter and Lewis Cass Chapter are kept by each current State Society President.
The Ninety years collection of Minutes of Meetings and Scrapbooks of the Society reflect historical and patriotic goals. The Society has made many contributions including those to schools, communities, support of World Wars I and II and the Korean and Vietnam Wars, as well as other patriotic causes.
On September 27, 1986 the grave of Colorado's only know War of 1812 veterran was marked in Linn Grove Cemetery, Greeley. Our Colorado veteran is Daniel Carpenter, Private, New York Militia, Genesee County, New York. In 1906 his grave had been marked with a similar plaque, which was later stolen. The new marker is very securely attached to the grave monument.
Annually at the February meeting money is collected and sent to the American Merchant Marine Library. Books given by members are donated to the Denver VA Hospital.
On May 13, 1992 the Colorado Society celebrated the 100th year of the founding of the National Society of the Daughters of 1812. Ninety years of continuous Patriotic Service by the Major General Alexander Macomb Chapter was also part of our celebration.
The State Society's Annual Meeting is held in May.
